KAYAKING ON THE WILD PELORUS RIVER

- THE BARREL RUN -

(including a Hobbit filming location)

Minimum Age: 4 years if accompanied by an adult. Please advise age of children at time of booking as river levels may effect suitability of your kayaking tour.
Time: 2.5 hours kayaking on the water. Please allow 4.5 hours total.

        

Explore a very famous New Zealand Hobbit location on our river kayaking trip! Drink the 10,000 year old natural spring water that flows from the mountains into the wild Pelorus river.
This is the most tangeable kayaking HOBBIT activity in the whole world - a real LOTR fans dream!

Our HOBBIT kayaking tour on the beautiful Pelorus River includes a fully guided tour through the exact same locations as where the wild river barrel scene in "The Hobbit- The desolation of Smaug" was filmed.
Stand where Sir Peter Jackson and his film team made this great movie and paddle yourself along the HOBBIT river in our very safe inflatable kayaks.

WHAT TO BRING FOR YOUR KAYAKING ADVENTURE:

• Suitable footwear, preferably closed waterproofed shoes.
• T-Shirt, shorts or swimmers
• Sun glasses
• Towel 
• Water bottle
• Change of (warm) clothes and 
• A smiley face

Cameras and I-phones are permitted on the river at your own risk. Bring a dry bag to fasten your camera to our wild river kayaks.
Our guides take pictures & videos of your trip which you can purchase after if you wish.
Pelorus Eco Adventures is not responsible for breakage or loss of personal belongings, during the trip.

• Sun screen
• A full range of safety equipment incl. wetsuits

There are lockable storage facilities available for valuables while you are kayaking.

ADVENTUROUS KAYAK TOUR ON THE WAKAMARINA RIVER

Kayaking Difficulty: medium

Minimum Age: 4 years if accompanied by an adult. Please advise age of children at time of booking as river levels may effect suitability of your kayaking tour.

Time: 2.5 hours kayaking on the water. Please allow 4.5 hours total.

Note: We can only kayak on this river after we have had rain, so please watch the weather!

Want a thrill? Come kayak the Wakamarina river rapids - undoubtedly one of the most scenic trips between Nelson and Havelock in your life! The Wakamarina is one of the richest gold rivers in the region. The first gold was found by four men in April 1864 and weighed 19 ounces - thats $38,000.00 worth today!

The gold rush started soon after. Local rivers are still frequented by gold hunters, in search of that big gold nugget. Gold can still be found along the banks and the perfect place to start looking is in the Wakamarina Valley car park at Butchers flat.

We stop along the way in your kayak to visit a 60 m mine shaft that still remains from the gold rush days. It is now home to our native glowworms, providing them with enough darkness to be viewed in the middle of the day.

Our Kayaking Cancellation Policy and Booking Conditions

Any group bookings over 6 wishing to be confirmed more than four weeks in advance will need to pay a  50% deposit.
Child prices are for children age 16 and below.

All forward bookings are confirmed by credit card details these can be given by.

All kayaking cancellations due to weather are at our guides discretion: All deposits will be refunded in full or a new date will be set with no extra costs. 
Cancellation groups of 6 or less: Must give 24 hour notice of cancellation or they will be charged in full.

For all kayaking groups over 6 people: 1 week notice is required of cancellation or 50% will be charged.
