Join our experienced, friendly guides on an eye opening, exhilarating adventure kayaking down the wild Pelorus river in New Zealand, used in the filming of the second HOBBIT movie, "The Desolation of Smaug".

Perfectly located, between sea kayaking Abel Tasman near Nelson and the vineyards of Blenheim on the South Island of New Zealand, we will take you on an incredible kayaking New Zealand tour through stunning views of pristine native forests. You will kayak New Zelands most amazing wild river. Cascade down dozens of rapids in crystal clear water, allow some time to soak up the local history and spot native birds. Explore of course one of the best HOBBIT filming locations in whole of New Zealand, where the dwarfs escaped in the barrel scene.

On our kayak tours no experience is necessary as the tandem inflatable kayaks are incredibly stable. We supply a full set of safety equipment and dry jackets for those big splashes.

Whether this is your first time on the water or if you are experienced in river kayaking, you will find the wild pelorus river has a lot to offer:
Waterfalls plummet from sheer cliff faces to plunge into the river alongside your vessel. Drink the 10,000 year old natural spring water that drips into the Pelorus river!

Many native  New Zealand trees and birds to see and/or hear and the long tailed bats rove the forests in the twilight looking for insects near Pelorus bridge; the bats can be seen from November until March.

Group discounts available!
Trips to cater for your time scale be it longer or shorter, on demand.

We also offer catering packages for groups!
From packed lunches to Smoked Salmon BBQ served right on the river.

PELORUS ECO ADVENTURES: SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMME

BIO-DIESEL
Both of our business kayaking shuttle bus and our family van are run on a fish and chip oil recycled Bio diesel. We have built a small scale, sustainable processing plant to re-use the local canola oil from 3 local restaurants, pretty cool huh!
SOLAR ELECTRIC POWER
We have installed 5 kilowatt of solar panels to off set our power usage and also save money. Additionally we are importing and selling them across New Zealand. So give us a ring for a quote.
ENVIRONMENT
We have also chosen a natural color scheme for all our river kayaking equipment so that we don't visually impact on the environment. We collect any plastic or rubbish we find along the shores while kayaking.
